Plan work with work items
Create work items with a type, status, priority, and assignee, and use them to run the project day to day.
1 min read
Work items are the tasks of the project: the things someone has to do, with a clear owner and a clear state. They live under Plan in the project sidebar, next to the milestones they roll up into.
Create a work item
- 1
In your project, open Plan, then Work items.

- 2
Click to create a new work item and give it a clear title. Write it so the assignee knows what "done" looks like.
- 3
Set its type, status, and priority, and pick an assignee from the project members.

Save. The item appears in the list and on the assignee's plate.
Open a work item for detail and discussion
Click any work item to open it. That is where the full description lives, where you update status and priority as things move, and where the discussion happens. Keep the conversation on the item rather than in side channels, so the decision trail stays with the work.

Where the types and statuses come from
The types, statuses, priorities, and any custom fields you see are configured by your workspace administrators, so every project speaks the same language. If a type or field you need is missing, ask an admin to add it: Configure work items and custom fields.
Tip
Add labels to work items to slice the list your way: by area, by phase, by trade. Filters on the list understand them.
